Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor

Luca Ballabio accomplishes his studies in orchestra conducting with a Master Degree under the guidance of maestro Marc Kissoczy and maestro Arturo Tamayo at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano (CH), where he studies also composition, score reading and orchestration. In July 2019 he has been selected by maestro Riccardo Muti as fellow student at the Italian Opera Academy within the renowed Ravenna Festival.

In 2018/2019 Season, he was appointed assistant conductor of maestro Sesto Quatrini at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius. In January 2018 he debuts with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI) at the renowed LAC hall in Lugano (CH), with the world premiere of “Landung Klarer” by Jo Flüeler, starting a cooperation that will continues also in the 2018/2019 season.
Since 2016 he cooperates with Filarmonica Ettore Pozzoli.

 

ROMAN BROGLI-SACHER
Principal Guest Conductor

Roman Brogli Sacher was born in Basel and he accomplished his musical studies at the conservatories of Zurich, Bern, Lucerne and Vienna. Since his debut in 1990 as assistant conductor at the Stadttheater in St. Gallen he conducted more than eighty prestigious orchestras all over the world such as: the Orchester de la Suisse Romande, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Verona Arena Orchestra, Beijing National Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and many others.
From 1997 to 2001 he was conductor at the Halle/Saale Opera House. From 2000 to 2016 he conducted the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra and he was the General Music Director and Opera Director at the Theater Lübeck. During this time, the Musiktheater Lübeck was the only opera house in northern Germany to receive four critical nominations for Opera House of the Year. Since 2013 he has been conductor of the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra with which he obtained the First Gold Award at the World Orchestra Festival in Vienna in 2019.

From 2015 to 2019, he was also Chief Conductor of the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra in Nanjing China. His opera repertoire goes from Wagner to Verdi up to Falstaff, Mefistofele – Boito, Butterfly, Tosca and Turandot by Puccini, Strauss as well as modernism with works by Thomas Ades “The Tempest”, “The Lighthouse” by Peter Maxwell Davies, “Penthesilea” and “Der Fischer und Syne Frau” by Othmar Schoeck, as well as Korngold’s “Der Ring des Polykrates” and “The Secret” by Krenek Kingdom “,” Elegy for Young Lovers “by Henze.

Since 2020 he is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra “Ettore Pozzoli” in Seregno.
